Port Fairy Events & Festivals
Port Fairy Folk Festival
The main music program is held in the Festival Arena (Southcombe Park Sports Reserve), which boasts nine major venues, two of which are licensed. The Arena is open to ticket holders only. There are also nine other venues around the town including churches, halls, the Theatre and clubs and free entertainment on Fiddlers’ Green and the Railway Stage. There are three market areas; Sackville Street, Railway Place and Glaxo Green. Many of the venues in town are free and open to ticket holders and non-ticket holders alike. Main concert venues have some fixed seating installed. In venues that have grassed surfaces, patrons may bring low height beach chairs and rugs to sit on. If you haven’t been to one of these festivals it’s about time!
Port Fairy Spring Festival
Created in 1990 the festival presents classical and contemporary ensemble music in fresh and collaborative programming. It combines the talents of highly regarded established artists with the very best of Australia’s new and emerging young performers and composers. The program also features drama, orchestral and choral music, jazz, opera, dance and free open air performance in a program of 24 performances over three days. Concerts are generally an hour long and designed especially for the Festival.
Port Fairy Jazz Festival
The festival takes place on the second weekend in February. (based on the 2nd Saturday) The aim is to present a friendly Jazz Festival by repeating the components of the inaugural event of 2017. It is a low cost festival run by volunteers, provides 10 venues, includes a dancing venue; runs from Friday 5pm to Sunday 6pm, has a Saturday morning Street Parade and a Sunday morning gospel service. The majority of the venues are within a short walking distance. Oh and there is a significant market on the Saturday morning.
Port Fairy Winter Weekends
Get out and about in the exhilarating elements & celebrate art, music, performance, produce, food and wine, history, environment and people that make Port Fairy so special. Port Fairy is a small town with a huge, beating heart. This festival celebrates the spirit, creativity and resourcefulness of the people who live here in its pristine and energising landscape. Jump into the rich history, from ancient indigenous aquaculture to post-colonial marine heritage, and brightened by the future with contemporary takes on food and design. Winter Weekends is a chance to share ideas, skills and conversation, to reflect and re energise and be enlivened by new discoveries. Port Fairy Winter Weekends Festival is a volunteer run, non-profit community festival that has been a fixture on the region’s calendar for more than 10 years. It is a celebration of Port Fairy’s history, culture and community.
Moyneyana Festival
Moyneyana Festival is a celebration of sea, sand and song. It’s fantastic fun for all the family and begins on Christmas Eve and continues on until Australia Day.
Koroit Irish Festival
Koroit is the place to be for celebrating all things Irish. Held in Koroit, just out side of Port Fairy in April, the festival continues to expand every year. Loads of entertainment for the whole family, especially the wee folk.
